The Arun Valley to Gokyo and the Khumbu

The above picture shows the Everest region generated with World Construction Set 6 using Jonathan de Ferranti's patched DEM's with a landsat overlay. The arrows link to flash panoramas rendered from those places but using WCS's enviroment rendering. Just mouse over the arrow to see details and click the arrow to see the panorama. You will need the flash plug in to view them but on most computers this is already installed. These are cubic panoramas rendered with a 2000 pixel square face so the files are large - about 20MB - so you will need a fast connection of a good supply of patience! Pan around with the mouse and zoom in with <Shift> and out with <ctrl> or use the buttons at the bottom. There is a small compass in the top right that shows which way you are facing and the your field of view.

The red line shows the route that our trek took in 1998, from Tumlingtar on the right to Gokyo on the left. The names link to fly through's of the various stages of the trek.

I have upgraded the VRML model of Everest . This version was done in Lightwave and covers a larger area. I have drastically reduced the polygons to make it run better and have put viewpoints in at Gokyo Ri, Kala Patar, Everest base camp, the Western Cwm, South Col and the summit. You will need a VRML client plug in. The cortona one I use is available here click the "VRML client" button on the left. A search will give you several more options.

Photos

The link on the left will take you to the photos taken on the treck and that on the right to the roll over comparisons of a few photos and the renderings made from the location of the photos.
